What this tool does
Build a normative reference for any performance variable by pooling the means and SDs of published studies (Cochrane method), then convert one athlete's value into a percentile against that pooled population. Save several variables to plot a full athlete profile as percentile cards, a horizontal bar, and a radar. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Step by step
- Add a variable for each test you want to profile (e.g. "Knee angle (°)", "Jump height (cm)"). Each variable keeps its own set of studies.
- Enter the study data for the active variable — one row per study with its reference, sample size
n, mean, and SD. The tool pools them into a combined mean and SD (Cochrane), shown as the pooled normative values.
- Enter the athlete's value for that variable. The tool computes a z-score against the pooled distribution (assumed normal) and converts it to a percentile, with a band and plain-English interpretation.
- Save to profile, then repeat for each variable. Read the percentile and its band — the cards, bar, and radar update automatically; the radar needs at least three saved variables.
- Export CSV or Send to Dashboard to keep the profile.
Tips
- Pool studies from the same population (sex, age, level) as your athlete — a percentile is only as meaningful as the reference group.
- Two or more studies make the pooled SD more stable; a single small study gives a wide, uncertain distribution.
- The 50th percentile is the population average; the band colours flag below-average (red/amber) through to exceptional (purple).
- Keep variable directions consistent so "higher percentile = better" reads correctly across the radar.
